BESTSELLER is an international family-owned fashion company founded in Denmark in 1975. Today, our products are sold in 70 countries across Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Oceania and the Middle East, and globally via e-commerce.
The Business
Troels Holch Povlsen and Merete Bech Povlsen created the foundation for BESTSELLER by opening the first store in the Danish town of Ringkøbing back in 1975. More stores quickly followed and before long BESTSELLER itself took on importing products to the stores. The import evolved and we successfully began selling our products to other stores as well, thereby laying the ground for our focus on both retail and wholesale.
Wholesale
Our wholesale business sells products to stores that also carry products from other brands than BESTSELLER – i.e. multi-brand and department stores. Today, our products are sold to more than 17,000 multi-brand and department stores globally.
Retail
Our retail business sells products to retail stores that only carry BESTSELLER products and have a BESTSELLER brand on their storefronts. Today, we have more than 3,000 of these branded chain stores in 38 markets worldwide. Through 'internal partners' BESTSELLER owns about half of these stores, while the remaining part is owned by 'external partners' (franchisees).
The setup is built on close cooperation between the local store owner and BESTSELLER as full-line supplier. I.e. the external partner owns the store himself, but buys all products, the store concept, inventory, marketing and professional feedback from BESTSELLER.
Brands
Our clothes are sold and marketed under a number of brands that are all based on the concept of good quality at competitive prices – fast affordable fashion. Women's wear was the starting point of our business, but in 1986 we introduced children's wear and three years later in 1989, we launched our first men's wear brand. Since then, accessories were added 2003, maternity wear in 2005 and most recently also sportswear and plus-size wear.
